He Thinks We're All Stupid?

The President, whose approval rating is between 25 and 30 percent as a very large majority of Americans think the Bush Presidency is a failure and America is on the wrong track because of Bush and his policies, was talking to reporters about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales from his ranch in Crawford, Texas, on May 21. While expressing his confidence in Gonzales, and assuring the American public that Alberto has "done nothing wrong," the President characterized critics of Gonzales as engaging in the type of "political theater" that has

"caused the American people to lose confidence in how Washington operates."

Let that sink in a moment. A President whose opinion polls dramatically and consistently show that Americans have completely (well, okay, only 3/4) lost confidence in his ability to govern states that his critics are causing Americans to lose confidence in "Washington's" ability to govern.

Is it possible to be more out of touch with reality?

The only other explanation—I ruled out irony, for obvious reasons—is that he thinks we're all stupid.

Of course...Congress's ratings are lower than the president's, and last Congress's by a fair margin at this point. So, arguing that someone engaged in a type of political theater which "caused the American people to lose confidence in how Washington operates." doesn't seem like that far of a stretch. And it seems like Gonzales may fall into that category.

Bush has always taken his position as an affirmation of his ego-maniacal perspectives. Thus, it is his GOD-GIVEN DUTY to exert his perspectives on reality as the ultimate reality--that's why he was "placed" where he is. "Listening" is hearing support for his position and perspectives and weeding out any variances. What might be interesting would be to compose a list of DELUSIONAL PRESIDENTS, and establish some kind of rating. First, take a little time to describe "delusional" and then proceed with rating scale and list. I'm not sure, but perhaps George W. Bush would indeed be at the top of the list.

I think there's no question that Dubya would top the list of delusional presidents. It's like he's living in some sort of alternate reality.
