I wish all you disgruntled liberals and others disappointed with the 2016 presidential election would just calm down!
Having a progressive, humanist-oriented country for 240 years is quite a respectable accomplishment. Just because that period is coming to an end, courtesy of our racist, xenophobic, mysogynistic, white nationalist president, does not mean that the preceding two or three centuries were a waste of time.
America was a great place, really. It wasn't perfect by any means, but there were a lot of nice things that could be said it. We--the American people, past and present--largely done good. I think history will treat us kindly.
Now that we've entered the age of the New Republicanism, where hatred and fear dominate our national politics and international policy, who's to say that some good may not result? Perhaps a few more wars will be good for the arms manufacturers. Maybe insulting the people of the world's largest country six weeks before the President takes office will result in good relations in the future. Perhaps the erosion of civil rights, abortion rights, LGBT rights, minority rights and human rights will serve us well. Our American soldiers are tough guys and it's okay that they be tortured in future wars as other countries retaliate for our use for torture on their soldiers.
You just have to look at the bright side of things!
