America in 2015

I hate unsupported and unattributed quotes, but this one is too dramatic not to post.

“American democracy, once held up as a beacon for the rest of the world, is a withered caricature of its former self, no longer capable of concealing the dictatorship of the financial and corporate elites…”

I am absolutely agree with the author's comments regarding the decline of the United States as an industrial power and the perversion of capitalism into a twisted grab for political domination on the part of big business and the financial institutions.
Similarly, I have noted the decline of America's political/economic influence over its enemies AND its friends, as observed in England's signing on with the Chinese in the formation of a new, Asia-based economic lending institution, which clearly illustrates that the rest of the world will no longer be bullied into following America's politico-economic pressure.
I believe that Bush thumbing his nose at the world, including the UN and our ALLIES by going into Iraq, and the revelation of our manipulations of political and economic power in developing countries, coupled with self-serving trade deals and the revelation of our spying on our powerful political "friends", has changed the attitudes of the world toward America in a permanent and detrimental way. The old patriarch bison of the US is still trying to lead but he is weakening and losing the respect of the herd. New leaders must, inevitably, emerge. Of course, as long as we maintain a military superiority we will continue to hold significant power. We still hold the dubious position of being the world's fattest policeman. (And it appears that those in Washington are fighting hard to maintain our military might)
I'm not so sure I accept the idea that a world-wide socialist revolution happening anytime in the immediate future. Though it may eventually come to pass, there is still too much chaos, divisiveness, and distrust within and between countries for this to happen anytime soon.
