Now that Secretary of State John Kerry and the Iranian head honchos seem to have reached a deal that will prevent Iran from being even a tiny bit able to develop nuclear weapons, we can only hope that congressional Republicans will either (a) make a secret deal with the Iranians to destroy the agreement before it can be implemented (maybe give them weapons, like Ronald Reagan did), or (b) pass a resolution in Congress that requires that all nuclear deals with Iran be approved and signed by the prime minister of Israel.
If congressional Republicans are not able to accomplish one of these options, or an equivalent, there's a good chance that the US won't actually go to war with Iran. And we know what a huge disappointment that will be to a significant portion of the American people, who seem to believe that the best and frequently only solution to any problem is (a) violence, and, if that doesn't work, (b) more violence. We can count on great howls of protest by patriotic Americans if the prospect of war is reduced, and the fact that their rallies and publicity are generously financed by defense contractors—owned and run by equally patriotic Americans—has nothing to do with their validity.
