French Premier Declares ‘War’ on Radical Islam
I hope that Secretary of State John Kerry or some other high-level official offers American advice and input on France's new initiative. America has fifty-year tradition of declaring "war" on non-nations, and of course—being America—we have succeeded brilliantly at those wars.
The War on Poverty was initiated by President Lyndon Johnson in the early 1960s. It has been a spectacular success, with only 16% of Americans living in poverty today (2015).
The War on Drugs, introduced by President Richard Nixon in the 1970s, has virtually eliminated the use of illegal drugs in the US. The War of Drugs has also had the unintended but fabulous side effect of putting hundreds of thousands of people in jail for victimless crimes, causing the US to have the highest incarceration rates in the word and costing the America taxpayers not only untold billions of dollars but vast waste of human life and potential.
The War on Terrorism, begun in 2002 by President George W. Bush, has virtually eliminated terrorism from the world. Plus, the US is now known to torture people, we have caused carnage and upheaval throughout the Middle East, and we have spent / are spending somewhere in the neighborhood of three trillion dollars on our effective and conclusive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Given America's fabulous track record with declaring war on social problems, I trust that the French premier will be inspired and guided by our successes.
