What, for example, are we supposed to think when a person known from countless examples to be an unprincipled liar, who is willing to distort reality into all sorts of impossible conditions in order to satisfy the bizarre ideological needs of himself and his sociopathic supporters, suddenly starts telling the truth?
Is he lying now/still? Is he ill? Has he undergone some sort of transformation?
How are we supposed to understand or interpret this?
The following was quoted by Associated Press on 17 July 2013, immediately after the end of the debate on filibustering and Republican obstructionism cleared the way for the Senate to approve some White House cabinet appointments:
"Cordray was being filibustered because we don't like the law" that created the consumer agency, said Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina. "That's not a reason to deny someone their appointment. We were wrong."

Long ago, someone of my acquaintance (I don't remember who) observed, "The level of moral integrity of the average politician lies somewhere between that of a used car dealer and a child molester."
