There are those who think that America is in or is rapidly approaching some sort of moral / political / social crisis, and that if there's not some sort of major course correction soon, the country is simply going to shatter because of its lies, hypocrasies, screwed-up priorities, and endless assaults on reason, truth, common sense and decency.
In my opinion, those who think this are misguided, and they simply don't see or understand the big picture. The essential elements of America--the core principles and values, if you will--are already crumbling and rotten, and the precipitous decline of America is already in full swing.
This decline is apparent in many ways, and I'll be presenting them in this space as they occur to me. We begin this optimistic and upbeat thread with a piece which I think nicely illustrates how things are not possibly going in a somewhat negative direction but instead have long-since turned and headed into the toilet. What better way to illustrate my premise than an article entitled--and very completely explaining--The Cancer From Within?

This is one of the most terrifying articles I have ever read. The implications are staggering...like what happens if the military decides that instead of upholding the Constitution it decides to base its actions on religious zealotry. Truly sounds like the crusades to me. This is bad stuff.
Scary shit, this. I'm thinking about moving to italy and becoming a preschool teacher.
There's no authentic basis whatsoever to back up the "Warrior Christ" image or attitude. So, whatever these militants are working with, it has nothing to do with real Christianity. Other gods are being served, with very powerful weapons.
"[When] the [Virginia] bill for establishing religious freedom... was finally passed,... a singular proposition proved that its protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word "Jesus Christ," so that it should read "a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion." The insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend within the mantle of its protection the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo and infidel of every denomination." --Thomas Jefferson: Autobiography, 1821.
