These points from a 19 May LA Times article on Iraqi refugees in Sweden provide an excellent example of how America behaves on the world stage under the leadership of George W. Bush and the neocons.
More than two million Iraqis have fled their homeland since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
During that time the United States has taken in 466 Iraqi refugees.
The Bush administration has pledged $18 million — a sum the U.S. military spends in Iraq in less than two hours — to United Nations relief efforts for Iraqi refugees this year.
Doesn't this just fill you with pride about what it means to be an American? Aren't you grateful that the people running our country use the power and authority that we've given them so wisely? Don't you feel good about our leaders acting in ways that so accurately reflect American values and priorities?
Update: The two million figure quoted above does not include the 1.9 million Iraqis who have fled from their homes and neighborhoods but have stayed within Iraq. See a follow-up LA Times editorial.
